Ms. Nguyen’s link to Reaching for Rainbows came through a former board member. “I wanted to start giving back to the community, and I thought of a special line of scrunchies in colours to match the Reaching for Rainbows brand. The designs are floral, youthful and cute,” she said. She invited the girls in the program to submit names for the scrunchies, and then asked her social media followers to vote on the choices. The final list of eight includes Fruit Explosion, Blue Lagoon, and Farmer’s Plants.

Reaching for Rainbows is a Prince Edward County-based registered charity dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing space every school year for 30 girls aged six to nine years old. XXL Scrunchie is collaborating with Reaching for Rainbows in Picton, Ontario. 20% of sales from this limited edition scrunchie launch will be directly donated to Reaching for Rainbows.

I get a lot of questions from customers and fellow small-business owners about how XXL & CO. came to be. The short answer is that I sewed a scrunchie for my cousin for Christmas about one year ago and, when she loved it, I decided to turn it into a business.

50% of profits from this collection will be directly donated towards @happysoulproject_uoft’s #differentisbeautiful Classroom Calendar Project. Every year, this calendar features children of all abilities and is used as a teaching tool in the classroom to discuss disabilities and the importance of inclusion. Their goal is to put a calendar up in as many classrooms across the Greater Toronto Area as possible in 2021. Every scrunchie sold will support one calendar for a classroom in the GTA.
